Virgin Media news

Virgin Media has come out on top in recent speed tests conducted by broadband.co.uk.

The broadband analyst calculated the average speeds for main land-line providers and announced that Virgin Media has taken the title of 'UK's Fastest Broadband Supplier' from August's champion O2.

It was found that the average download speed for a Virgin Media broadband customer is now 6.13Mb, beating the 5.32Mb boasted by O2.

According to broadband.co.uk, the broadband speed tests involved thousands of subscribers all over the country.

"The results show the fruits of Virgin's work to improve download speeds in recent months and we expect the results to improve further for Virgin as their 50Mbp service becomes more widely available over the coming months," said Edd Dawson from broadband.co.uk.

Looking ahead to the next round of tests, broadband.co.uk said that it expected further speed increases due to the "new technologies" set to be deployed by providers.
