Virgin Media news

Three towns in Kent have been chosen by Virgin Media to be pilot locations for its upcoming 50Mb roll-out.

Fortunate residents in Folkstone, Dover and Ashford all have the opportunity to sign up for the two-month trial, as long as they are already a Virgin Media customer.

Broadband users will be given a free trial of the technology and then invited to pay £47 per month for the service.

There has been no confirmation on whether users wishing to continue to enjoy 50Mb speeds into the New Year will be able to do so, with December 31st marking the end of the trial period.

Giving an insight into the technology used to improve connections, Tech Digest revealed: "For those of you bothered about the technicalities of the service, Virgin Media is using DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications), a protocol which allows the sending of data signals over the same cabling used for TV signals."
