The older generation are making increasing use of broadband internet, an industry expert has claimed.
According to Rachel Hawkes, co-founder of Social Media Portal, this has been caused by the integration of the internet into more aspects of everyday life.
She explained that with "more and more services becoming almost entirely reliant on computers and internet" the older generation are increasingly "gravitating to technology".
"There are many services being run by organisations such as Age Concern throughout the country for individuals that aren't up to speed with technology," she added.
However, despite increased integration, nearly two thirds (65 per cent) of over 65s have never used Video on Demand (VOD), according to a survey by ABI Research.
Meanwhile, the poll suggests that downloading is predominantly popular among the under 30s.
Overall, only 12 per cent of the population use streaming sites to watch content over broadband connections, a Digital Entertainment Survey shows.
