Cash-strapped consumers can get an 8Mb broadband connection from Be Broadband for half price for a limited period, thanks to an exclusive deal currently on offer from Top 10 Broadband.

Under the terms of the deal, customers who buy the Be Value package through Top 10 Broadband get the first three months for just £6.75 per month. The package offers an 8Mb broadband connection, an unlimited download limit (subject to fair use) as well as Be’s Box modem for free. Developed exclusively by Be to make the most of its ADSL2+ technology, the modem is equipped with enough USB ports to allow up to four computers to be connected.

Also included in the cut-price package is 24-hour customer service and technical support and the option to upgrade to the Home E-mail Bundle. This enables you to set up five personal e-mail addresses using a Be domain and is available for just £2 extra per month. Each account comes with 100MB of webspace for your own personal corner of the World Wide Web.

To sign up for the exclusive, limited-period offer, customers need only enter the promotional code TOP10 when buying Be Value through Top 10 Broadband. Take-up is expected to be strong among consumers who are struggling in the face of the economic downturn and who are consequently looking to cut costs.

News of the deal comes as Be is currently undergoing a branding rethink with a view to making the service more appealing to its core market. This is expected to see the company doing away with the pink star that accompanies its logo and revamping its website.

Oli White, Be's head of marketing, has told New Media Age: "O2 has committed to us being a standalone, premium broadband service and that means more investment into our site - that's something we're conscious has needed to be done for some time.

"Not every 18-34 male identifies with a pink star; we have a lot of people who are into downloading games and movies as subscribers so we want to look [to] align more with them."
