Households and businesses in several parts of Hampshire are set to benefit from faster broadband speeds, it has been reported.

BT has announced plans to upgrade another five telephone exchanges in the county as part of its broadband infrastructure refurbishment, bringing super-fast internet to up to 50,000 properties.

Residents and businesses in Eastleigh, Chandler's Ford, Fair Oak, Locks Heath and Andover are set to benefit from the latest announcement, reports Hampshire Business.

Robert Crawford, of regional development agency Seeda, claimed that technology investment has never been as important before as in "these challenging economic times".

"I am convinced that businesses in this region, which have a reputation for innovation and enterprise, will take full advantage of the tremendous opportunities it offers," he stated.

Last week, it was reported that the small town of Didcot in Oxfordshire had been hooked up to the high-speed broadband network.
