Consumers who purchase a digital TV, home phone and broadband bundle could save hundreds of pounds per year, it has been reported.

Such packages may be the best option for customers seeking the cheapest broadband deals, according to finance website Think Money.

It stated that in difficult times, any savings are a major plus for consumers, urging customers to compare broadband prices.

"If broadband and a landline are essential for the borrower, it makes sense to find the cheapest overall package," the website added.

And the options available in this area of the market could soon increase, with Ofcom aiming to boost the range of broadband and TV bundles accessible to web users in the UK.

Last week, the communications regulator Ofcom called on broadband provider Sky to cut the wholesale price at which it offers Sky Sports 1 and 2 to rivals – a move which could see new packages launched by other firms.

Sky responded by describing Ofcom's action as "an unprecedented and unwarranted intervention".
