The founder and Managing Director of Zen Internet, has been recognised as a shining light of the north and midlands business world.

Richard Tang, who started up the Rochdale-based internet service provider (ISP) in 1994 aged 28, has been named as the regional winner of the Ernst and Young Customer Service Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Speaking to the Rochdale News, the computer science graduate expressed his delight at the award, presented to him at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester.

"I am very happy to be the regional winner... and would like to thank each and every member of our workforce for turning my dream for Zen into a reality," Mr Tang said.

Earlier this month, Zen Internet announced it will be upgrading all subscribers up to 40Mb broadband deals from September 2010.

"We are in the process of developing these new services which use fibre-optic cabling for part of the network to deliver faster broadband to homes and businesses," a spokesperson for the ISP stated.
