Internet service provider (ISP) Virgin Media has claimed that UK broadband deal customers are being taken for a ride by rival providers.
According to the high-speed broadband specialists, the latest figures from Ofcom paint a 'damning' picture of the misleading advertising practices being used by the broadband industry.
Virgin Media claims that the 'up to' broadband adverts put out by its rivals are extremely misleading and are damaging the reputation of the broadband sector as a whole.
A spokesperson for the company said: "Ofcom's latest report is yet another damning indictment that consumers continue to be treated like mugs and misled by ISPs that simply cannot deliver on their advertised speed claims."
They added that the Advertising Standards Authority had already highlighted the urgent need for change to the way that broadband bundles are marketed to consumers.
"In a nascent market for next generation broadband, the sub-standard fibre optic services being sold are undermining people's faith in fast broadband," the spokesperson concluded.
Recently, Virgin Media announced that its fibre optic broadband bundles were growing in popularity across the UK.
