Virgin Media news

Households and businesses in Cardiff are set to gain access to Virgin Media's 100Mb super-fast broadband network, it has been reported.

Thousands of premises in the Welsh capital are set to benefit when the broadband provider's fibre-optic network is extended to the city later this year.

Jon James, Executive Director of Broadband at Virgin Media, said residents in Cardiff "will be blown away by what 100Mb can deliver".

"The launch of our 100Mb service in Cardiff is a significant milestone in the UK's broadband evolution and a vivid illustration of the power of our next-generation network," he stated.

"From establishing the UK's first ever broadband service to the launch of 100Mb just ten years later, Virgin Media has led the greatest developments in Digital Britain."

Last month, the Welsh Affairs Select Committee launched an inquiry into the quality of broadband coverage in the principality - particularly in rural areas.

In a statement, the committee expressed concerns that Wales is being left behind the rest of the UK in terms of high-speed broadband provision.
