The number of options available to tablet broadband users is set to increase further as 2011 progresses.
Computer manufacturer Sony is planning to launch a tablet rival to Apple's iPad 2 later this year, it has been announced.
The S1, which comes with a 9.4 inch screen, has been launched in Tokyo, Japan, alongside a smaller, 5.5 inch folding device – the S2.
A spokesperson for Sony said the tablets would launch with "competitive" prices when they go on sale in the autumn.
The S1 and S2 will run using Google's Android 3.0 operating system.
Last week, manufacturer Dell launched its own second-generation tablet rival to the Apple iPad – the Dell Streak 7.
The product went on sale to mobile broadband users in the UK, with prices starting at £229.
