Virgin Media has started a major update of its TiVo-based connected television service, it has been reported.

Earlier this week, the broadband provider confirmed via Twitter that the upgrade would commence shortly, and the rollout has now begun.

TiVo has sent a message out to subscribers confirming that the upgrade commenced at 02:00 GMT on Thursday November 17th.

The service update is scheduled to conclude in the early hours of Thursday November 24th, reports Pocket-lint.

Virgin Media has promised to keep its subscribers informed over the progress of the rollout during the coming week.

At the end of the third quarter of 2011, the TiVo customer base stood at 162,900 – with many of these customers also receiving Virgin Media broadband deals.
