Virgin Media is teaming up with video infrastructure provider Harmonic to deliver Olympic Games coverage in high definition across its TV platform.

The broadband and subscription television provider will deliver 24 HD BBC Olympic channels during the upcoming Games, allowing subscribers to enjoy all the action at the world's largest sporting event.

Virgin Media will be supplied with live HD BBC footage, with the content instantly encoded by Harmonic to ensure viewers receive the highest video quality.

Neil Drennan, Director of TV Engineering at the broadband provider, said that with a full range of live channels in HD from the BBC, Virgin Media customers "will be spoiled with a superb viewer experience".

"Harmonic is delivering a range of high-density video systems with outstanding video quality," he stated.

"Thanks to its high-performance yet bandwidth-saving encoding and management software solutions, our TV customers can now watch even more live sports coverage in breathtaking HD quality."
