Businesses will need super-fast fibre broadband in order to be competitive in the years to come, one advocate has claimed.
David Cockroft, Coventry City Council's Assistant Director of City Centre and Development Services - who also serves as Lead on the Super Connected Coventry project - said new online capabilities are becoming "essential" for growth-focused firms.
Writing for the Coventry Telegraph, he noted that super-fast and ultra-fast broadband is "changing the world" of business forever.
"This new generation of broadband services isn't just 'ordinary broadband, but a bit faster', " Mr Cockcroft claimed.
He added that the difference in speed is "so great" that super-fast broadband adopters can do much more online than was possible in the past.
This is why Mr Cockcroft is urging small and medium-sized businesses in particular to upgrade their connectivity, taking advantage of the grant funding that is available in many areas.
Mr Cockcroft said that by upgrading their connectivity, these companies can be more competitive and successful "now and in the future".
