Virgin Media is now offering consumers a major discount on its up to 50Mb broadband and phone package.

New subscribers signing up for the Big Connection broadband deal online can pay just £4 per month plus line rental for the first eight months of a 12-month deal.

After the introductory discount period ends, the price reverts to £17.50 per month plus line rental, which is priced at £16.99 per month.

Subscribers are able to download at up to 50Mb and take advantage of an unlimited usage allowance.

They can take advantage of weekend calls to UK landlines and Virgin Mobile numbers.

Customers also receive a free Super Hub wireless router and a free installation worth £49.95.

Virgin Media says the 50Mb broadband deal is "great" for streaming movies, uploading photos, shopping and browsing the internet.

Subscribers have the option of bolting on TV services to their broadband package, and also adding a mobile SIM.
