Plusnet news

Plusnet is set to become the latest UK broadband provider to launch its own-branded connected TV service.

The Sheffield-based operator will follow in the footsteps of BT and TalkTalk by launching a television service based on the YouView platform, reports ISPreview.co.uk.

A post on the YouView Community Forum revealed that Plusnet's TV offering is "coming soon" and that interested consumers can register their interest on the Plusnet website.

Phil, an official YouView Rep, said he was able to confirm the impending launch of the service.

However, he noted that not everyone will be able to sign up - at least initially.

"It will be available exclusively to existing Plusnet Unlimited Fibre customers," he explained.

As well as BT and TalkTalk - which use the YouView platform - Virgin Media, Sky and EE all offer TV services alongside broadband and phone.

This means the broadband provider is able to offer triple-play broadband deals, or quad-play if they offer mobile services too.

The introduction of a Plusnet TV service will allow the broadband provider to match its rivals, with a view to retaining customers and defending its market share.
