Sky News and Sky Sports have entered a partnership with Twitter that will see them play a role in the UK launch of Twitter Moments today (December 15th).
Moments is Twitter’s news tab, which allows users to catch up on current affairs by providing a list of news stores curated by the service's own journalists and social media partners.
The partnership will see Sky News appear as the only UK news broadcaster, while Sky Sports will showcase the best of its sports tweets to millions of UK Twitter users.
Both @SkyNews and @SkySports will curate their own moments, which users will then be able to view by clicking the new lightning bolt button that has been rolled out across iPhone, Android and desktop.
Andrew Hawken, Director of Products, Sky News, commented: “Sky News always aims to be at the forefront of social media innovation, embracing new ways to reach our customers. I’m delighted that our journalism is being showcased to Twitter Moments users. This is an exciting time as Sky News’ digital portfolio increases.”
The first Twitter Moment from Sky News was about British astronaut Tim Peake and his journey to the International Space Station.
Sky News already boasts a sizeable digital portfolio online and is available on mobile, social, and Snapchat, as well as connected TV, radio and iPad.
Dave Gibbs, Sky Sports Director of Digital Media commented that Twitter Moments will empower the news provider to “continue to lead the conversation around the best sporting events on Sky Sports”.
“Starting with the PDC World Darts Championship, Moments will help us capture the colour, atmosphere and drama of this unique sporting event, supporting and showcasing our live TV coverage,” he continued.
