Sky customers who sign up for the new Sky Q service have been advised they will be unable to keep existing recordings on their Sky+ boxes.

A rep from Sky broke the news in response to a customer query on Twitter, advising them that alas they will lose anything they've got stored on their Sky+ box. But that movies they have bought through Sky Buy and Keep will be transferred to the Sky Q box.

Sky's new home entertainment system was made available to buy this week, with packages starting at £42 a month.

One key selling point of the service is the fact viewers can watch live, recorded and on-demand shows on their main Sky Q box or another TV or tablet, as well as resume programmes paused on one device on another from the same point.

Furthermore, users will be able to save recordings on their tablets, so they can watch their favourite shows outside the house
