BT has confirmed that it is to offer its "best ever" security tool to existing broadband customers.

Subscribers are to be upgraded to BT NetProtect Plus, which is powered by McAfee and capable of protecting up to 15 web-enabled devices.

Customers will be upgraded in July, while NetProtect Plus will then be extended to mobile devices in October.

BT has also confirmed that customers on select packages will get 100GB of cloud storage.

This means people will automatically be able to back up more documents, photos and other files, as well as keep them safe and easily accessible.

These enhancements are among several sweeteners to tempt customers at a time when BT is increasing its prices.

From July 3rd, line rental costs are to go up by £1, as will the cost of subscribing to BT Sport. Meanwhile, Infinity 1 subscribers will have to pay £2.05 extra on average.

However, BT has promised to balance this with an improved service, as broadband customers will get a free speed boost to 52Mbps from 38Mbps.

In addition, it has pledged to repair line faults faster for all of its voice and broadband customers by upgrading them to a higher level of service, which means an engineer will be sent 24 hours faster than before, if a home visit is required.

Furthermore, BT Sport will show a greater number of Barclays Premier League games next season, with the number rising from 38 to 42 and being shown at a better kick-off time of 17:30 on a Saturday.

BT has said these improvements will offer customers greater value at a time when they are being asked to pay more for their broadband and TV packages.
