BT has reaffirmed its commitment to rolling out G.fast technology more widely.

The company recently announced a further 26 locations in the UK to pilot the technology, which takes the overall number of pilot locations to 46.

BT plans to follow this up by expanding its G.fast network to a million homes and businesses by the end of 2017-18.

"Our ultrafast broadband technology, using our FTTP and G.fast network, is now available to around 770,000 homes and businesses," the company said.

BT added that its superfast broadband network now passes 27.1 million properties, while it has achieved 505,000 fibre broadband net connections.

Service providers other than BT account for nearly two-thirds of these, bringing the number of premises connected to about 8.6 million.

BT added that it plans to make ultrafast broadband available to 12 million homes and businesses by the end of 2020.
