BT is to trial a brand new top-of-the-range router ahead of an expected release next year, emails to customers confirm.
The provider's existing Smart Hub is billed as offering the widest-ranging signal in the UK and was designed to cope with the demands of households using multiple web-enabled devices.
BT's new iteration will be tested by volunteers over several months, which means it could be some time before we hear details of its final features and specifications.
In addition, the firm is set to trial an enhanced version of its My BT app, which operates on iOS, Android and Web platforms.
The app is designed to enable BT customers to manage their account and check their usage while they are on the move, via their smartphone, iPad or tablet.
However, the provider wants to extend it to additional platforms such as Amazon Fire tablets.
A trial of the revised version will be carried out over the coming months to help it identify and clear any faults before it is rolled out to customers.
"With your help we aim to produce a brilliant experience for all our customers using the app," BT said.
