Virgin Media has been named as the fastest provider of Netflix's video streaming service in 2017.

The average speed for Netflix users who took their broadband from Virgin Media was 3.94Mbps last year.

This put it slightly ahead of BT, which was given an average speed of 3.83Mbps, while Plusnet came third with 3.64Mbps.

EE was ranked in fourth place with an average of 3.52Mbps, with TalkTalk and Sky both following with average speeds of 3.47Mbps.

The figures come as Virgin Media continues with its Project Lightning initiative, a major rollout of a fibre optic network that offers households broadband speeds of up to 300Mbps.

This is fast enough to enable consumers to stream ultra-high-definition TV.
