Households and businesses in Eastbourne saw the greatest improvements to their internet connection speeds during 2010, it has been reported.
The seaside resort enjoyed a 255 per cent increase in broadband speeds over the last 12 months, greater than any other town in the UK, according to Top10.com.
At the start of 2010, residents were forced to contend with average download speeds of just 1.32Mb, however, the mean had risen to 4.69Mb by the end of the year.
Local businessman Darren Baker told the Eastbourne Herald that the local broadband network upgrade is "excellent" news for the town.
"Mobile broadband is really taking off, both on smartphones and on dongles, and this work means that people will now have better coverage across the UK, alongside quicker data speeds," he stated.
"Our customers will be able to do even more on the move - whether it's browsing the internet, checking their emails, updating their social media profiles, or just talking and texting."
