Virgin Media has taken to micro-blogging website Twitter to promote its TV Anywhere app, which allows consumers to watch content on a mobile device.

Consumers with an iPad and mobile broadband are able to watch live television, manage recordings and control their home TiVo box using their tablet.

All they need to do is set up the application with their iPad connected to their Virgin Media Super Hub or router.

"Finished playing with The Snowman and The Snowdog App? Then it's definitely time to try Virgin TV Anywhere," the firm tweeted.

Virgin Media has offered advice to consumers looking to set up TV Anywhere, in order to help them take greater control of the viewing experience.

Firstly, they need to inform the TiVo box that the Virgin TV Anywhere app is allowed to control and access it.

This can be done using the Network Remote Control function on the TiVo setup menu, which can be accessed using a remote control.

"Once you’ve allowed network-based remote controls open up your Virgin TV Anywhere app. It’ll search your home network for TiVo boxes and you’ll see the scanning screen," Virgin Media explained.

"You'll then see the Select a TiVo box screen with all the TiVo boxes that Virgin TV Anywhere can find on the home network."

During the next stage of the process, consumers need to enter their Media Access Key - a number that identifies their TiVo box and allows them to connect their iPad to it.

"Once that’s done, you'll be taken to the Info screen on the app and can now use Virgin TV Anywhere to control and manage your TiVo box as well as watching Live TV."
