HSBC is now offering wireless broadband services to its customers in 650 branches nationwide.

The bank has installed a premium BT Wi-Fi network, allowing it to offer connectivity to the internet across a range of web-enabled devices.

HSBC decided to offer free Wi-Fi after a BT and Avaya study revealed 49 per cent of UK banking customers would welcome such a development.

Carl Howard, Head of Digital for HSBC UK, said the bank "has been listening to its customers" and is looking to make banking easier for them.

"They tell us they like the idea of mobile banking, but in some cases would value being shown how it works," he stated.

"Our branch staff can now demo our Mobile Banking app in branch to get people started, as well as demonstrating new features such as the new mobile payment service Paym1."

This allows people to pay their contacts using just a mobile number.
